haha it's all good. But I gotcha, but the skins I plan on using I like the most so I doubt I'll find anything I don't like about them. But still, your instructions are helpful

I have a personal preference for not playing 'commercial' activities on home lots. I don't like it - causes too many issues for me. That's one of the things I have never done entirely - play a business on a home lot. I always use owned community lots for that.

Interestingly, I play my vicars the opposite way. They own the church lots and use the ticket machine. I set it on it's lowest level (cheapest-of-the-cheap) and see the income from that as their stipend. I only need to remember to get the vicar to go to their lot and remove the machine when there's a wedding or funeral in the offing.
Sorry, maxon. "Intended" was probably a bad choice of word. I certainly didn't mean to suggest that your way was "invalid". "Suggested" might have better choice of word.

It says on schools institutions page at Simlogical "This is a set of objects that will help you run a functioning school for children and teens on a residential zoned lot. You will need at least one resident Sim just to keep the lot accessible." Actually I had no choice in New Desconia, because I set up and started playing the school several months before I bought OFB.

Similarly my parish church in Veronaville: I built St Simeon's Church before I got OFB. I have thought of the priest buying the church, but the Rev. Elspeth Anderson's stipend is only ยง150 a day (custom Church of England career) and the church is worth well over ยง50,000! I suppose you just have to use a money cheat. I make sure she's there for services by including her in the visiting group or teleporting her in.

Thanks Charity for that link to DiLight's mods to give Romance Sims positive memories of going steady, getting engaged and getting married. I don't think any of my Romance Sims really regret these choices. Some of them have wonderful open relationships where they share absolutely everything with their partner -- including all the "friends" they bring home for woohoo.

Ok, this might be a really stupid question, but is woohoo fun? (I mean in the sims, not real life, ha ha!)\

I've had a few sims woohoo and just seem to get no fun from it. I've never noticed before.

Yeah, it also says somewhere - maybe in the documentation - that it works on community lots too. That way she said it is probably a hangover from the version she did for TS1 - owned community lots were not an option then.

Thread for yakking about making TS2 stuff

So, I have gone back to TS2 again to mix up things (and after I went to TS1 and after a while, the non-aging just got very boring). Although it was fun for a while to rediscover it.

Two things I am wondering about. I made two sims that I wanted to breed eventually, played them in separate households and alternated between them to get them halfway up their respective career ladders. I made them compatible zodiac signs and compatible attractiveness. So, while they went out, found each other hot, and by now are married, BFF, and all that, the heart stays pink. I do find that when they talk longer their relationship goes down to 99 but still, just because you don't share all your interests you stay in "crush" mode? I don't mind, I added the romantic aspiration as a secondary aspiration to both of them, so there will be turbulence in their future. I'm just puzzled.

Generally, this probably the reason why I never got as attached to TS2 as I am to TS3, it feels like a chore or repetitive to me. A lot of rags-to-riches stories but overall, there seems very little variation. I'm sure it's just me. Can anyone suggest a few challenges that aren't a variation on that theme? Or aren't apocalypse challenges?

ETA: Another thing I can't figure out. Years of TS3 with Master Controller spoiled me. How do I change it when a toddler grows up with a terrible haircut (or no hair) and ridiculous clothing. How do I change that in TS2?

There are two places for UI heart flags, an upper place and a lower place. The pick crush hearts go in the lower position, and the red love hearts go in the upper position, and get replaced by the engaged/married flags when the sims get engaged or married. You can have both hearts at the same time, in fact unless something dramatic happens you'll always have the crush hearts if you have the love hearts.

You can change toddler's appearances in the mirror, just like with any other sim, although you have to do it as an action queued for an adult sim who will go get the toddler. You change their clothes similarly with the baby changing station.

The terrible haircut can be fixed if you select a teen or someone older and click on the mirror, there should be an option "change appearance of Toddler" (or something like that, my game isn't English).

Edit: too late .

Thanks, @kestrellyn and @TychoH!

I knew it was something like this but somehow I couldn't remember which sim to click.

Another thing that's bugging me. I have an island for my sims to eat in the kitchen. Ever since I added two desks for my future children's room upstairs, my sims keep insisting they want to eat there. I took off the door for now but once my toddlers are grown up, I need this room.
Is there a mod to keep sims eating near where they cook? Or is it simply that they prefer a table over an island?
Is there a mod that expands on the locking options for a door? My toddlers are creepily watching their parents sleep. I don't like it. Of course, if I hadn't added the toddler-can-walk stairs mod, that wouldn't be a problem but I like this one. I love how they race up and down.

I think this should help: http://modthesims.info/d/344321 Also, make sure they have chairs to sit in near the island.

authorizedpersonelonly.zip from here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/al/hacks/ The object also functions as a burgler alarm and has an option to lock doors to the burgler, then nanny, the cow mascot, etc. as well as restrict where sims of a particular age can wander. But really you should just buy your toddlers a skilling toy and have them skill on that while they're awake.

Thanks! Now I remember @dickhurt's mod. I freaked out because it requires the global hack thing to be installed and I didn't understand the readme. I have no routine on what to avoid when it comes to TS2, so I kind of freaked out. You know, things like not saving when on the phone. Or what to do with tombstones when someone dies on your lot. I vaguely remember there is an issue.
So I'm always ready for a broken game until I play more often. Which is unlikely.
So anyway, I put a table in and all is well again. I will add the door lock mod, though. My toddlers are skilling but once in a while, they race up the stairs to watch their parents. It's weird and kinda funny. It just really crosses a line when ACR makes my parents go at it while the toddlers sit there watching......

Saving while on the phone isn't a big deal - just keep lot debuggers around and nuke offworld loiterers after a reset.

Tombstones - just don't delete them (or break the urn and clean up the ashes).

Really? I mean I have that thing on my lot that looks like a black box with a nuclear sign on it because I read it will prevent lot corruption.
But when clicking on it, there is all that stuff that I don't know what it means, so I'm scared to do anything with it. My main problem is, I don't speak TS2 anymore and I'm coming to realize I never did very well. I don't expect anyone to explain everything to me, there is just a lot that I need to relearn and figure out and as always, learning by doing is my best strategy. Albeit a slow one with mishaps.

But there will be the occasional post in the "Stupid Questions" thread.
But I appreciate you guys answering my questions when I have them!

The lot debugger is a black box with the batman symbol on it. You shouldn't need most of its options, but if you have a problem someone might know of an option on it that will solve it. The main important ones are Fix... Nuke... and the Memory menu. Most of the fix options won't mess things up too badly, and if you see something there that you don't see normally it's probably a good idea to try it, especially if something is wrong. The only things I'd say are, don't fix "work state" while someone is at work normally, don't nuke sim schedulers if you have an NPC scheduled (unless you think something is wrong with the NPC not showing up), don't nuke stuck bills if your bills aren't stuck (unless you just don't want to have to pay bills). Information just displays info, I don't believe it actually does anything. Memory allows you to clear certain memories/gossip, which you should definitely do regularly - at a minimum clear it from the dead and clear boring gossip, but you might also want to clear all gossip if you don't like it or all trash memories (like the mystery sim memories). None of this should damage your game, and it will cut down on the junk floating around significantly. To avoid firstborn syndrome, save the game when your sim is about to give birth and then click on Fix...Rerandomize Sim Generator, which will pause for a while and quit to the hood, but since you saved first, it's fine. That ensures that all your kids don't come out identical.

As for getting off the "rags-to-riches with very little variation" wheel, there's a sticky thread called "Keeping the Game Interesting," in which people discuss how to get into the sandbox mindset. You may also find that reading the "What's Happening In Your Game Right Now" thread, and various threads discussing playstyles, inspiring; and of course reading people's sim blogs and simblrs can do the same.

The thing to remember is, that this is a sandbox game, not a quest-based one, and most of it happens inside your head. It's 100% up to you how interesting it is. Don't let yourself get distracted by the race to the top of the career or grinding for 50 1st dates or whatever, if that's not what you like. What parts to you enjoy most? Odd are, not watching your sim read to improve mechanical skill! Think about the narrative elements, about character, conflict, plot, motivation; about culture, economy, history; about genetics; about what the personality points actually mean for this sim rather than that sim. Is this sim lazy, or physically limited? Is this sim misanthropic, or afflicted with social anxiety? Spend time interpreting autonomous behavior in light of the context and the wants panel. Or make a Prosperity or BACC or integrated hood with no careers at all, where everything has to be created and built in-game.

Love toddlers? Play a 7-toddler challenge! Run a neighborhood day care or an orphanage! Get a trips and quads mod! Hate toddlers? Develop a society in which babies are taken from parents and raised in an institution till they become children or teen-agers (depending on what ages you like to play) and have people who want families adopt them at that age, having cheated them to grow up and have randomized skills - and possibly some of the psychological problems that come with institutionalization.

Love building? Spend all your time building and play-testing. Make lots to upload, take part in contests. Building is just as much playing as character play is.

Unbox your mind, and the sky's the limit.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

There's also the What's going on in your game? (TS2)-social group where people have threads dedicated to their hoods and sharing stories from them or just what they are up to. Might be a good way to see how other people play their games and get inspiration

If you have questions on how to use SimPE or WW, you're welcome to PM me.
